Exchange Opportunities for High school Students
Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship
The Benjamin Franklin Summer Institutes are intensive academic institutes hosted by a U.S. college or university. These programs are academic in nature, and focus on global issues, in addition to leadership and community service. During the exchanges, students and educators participate in workshops, community service activities, team building exercises, meetings with community leaders, leadership development, and focus on a specific theme, such as conflict resolution, social entrepreneurship, or environmental stewardship. FLEX: Future Leaders Exchange Program (Formerly A-SMYLE)
The Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program provides scholarships for high school students from Europe and Eurasia to spend an academic year in the United States, living with a family and attending an American high school. Public applications are accepted. The application process has several stages, and competition is intense. Only about one in fifty applicants are ultimately selected. Global UGRAD Exchange Program
The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (also known as the Global UGRAD Program) provides one semester scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students from around the world for non-degree full-time study combined with community service, professional development, and cultural enrichment. Fulbright Foreign Student Program
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to research and study in the United States for one year or longer at U.S. universities or other appropriate institutions. Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program
U.S. institutions of higher education may submit proposals to host Fulbright lecturers from abroad for one or both semesters in an academic year. Preference is given to institutions that are traditionally less involved in international exchange programs, including hosting visiting scholars and to colleges and universities serving minority audiences. Priority institutions include small liberal arts colleges, community colleges, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges and Universities, and other Minority-serving Institutions. Colleges and universities sometimes propose to formally or informally share the visiting scholar with neighboring institutions or consortia, and consortia applications are welcome. Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to approximately 850 foreign scholars from over 100 countries to conduct post-doctoral research at U.S. institutions from an academic semester to a full academic year. Visit the ECA website for more details on applying and eligibility.
The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (Fulbright TEA)
Fulbright TEA brings international, secondary-level teachers to the United States for a six-week program. Teachers take academic seminars for professional development at a host university. They observe classrooms and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university and at local secondary schools. Fulbright TEA participants foster positive interactions with Americans throughout their time in the United States, especially in American classrooms. OneBeat
This is an international music exchange that celebrates musical collaboration and social engagement through innovative people-to-people diplomacy. Musicians (ages 19-35) from around the world come together in the U.S. for four weeks to collaboratively write, produce, and perform original music, and develop ways that music can make a positive impact on our local and global communities. More than a performance program, OneBeat balances three principles: dialogue, creation, and social engagement to foster mutual understanding and cooperation among citizens of the world, one unexpected musical piece at a time. Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program
The Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program offers foreign English teaching professionals the opportunity to take innovative, online university-level classes and online professional development programming for teachers through FHI360.
Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship
The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is a U.S. Department of State Fulbright program that brings accomplished mid-level professionals to the U.S. for 10-months of combined academic (NON-DEGREE) and professional work. The program provides a basis for lasting ties between citizens of Serbia and their professional counterparts in the United States. The Humphrey Fellowship is granted competitively to public and private sector candidates with strong leadership potential and a commitment to public service. Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program
The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program places recent college graduates and young professionals as English teaching assistants in primary and secondary schools or universities overseas – improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing the U.S. student’s own language skills and knowledge of the host country. Fulbright U.S. Student Program
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals and artists to study, conduct research, and/or teach English abroad. In addition, Critical Language Enhancement Awards are available to grantees for study of critical need foreign languages before or during their grant period. Public applications are accepted. Fulbright-mtvU Fellowship
A component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, the Fulbright-mtvU Fellowship is a special opportunity for up to four U.S. students to pursue projects around an aspect of international contemporary or popular music as a cultural force for expression. Preference is given to creative projects that are conveyed in a dynamic fashion and are accompanied by a feasible plan. Public applications are accepted. English Language Fellow Program
Through the English Language Fellow (EL Fellow) Program, highly qualified U.S. educators in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) participate in 10-month-long fellowships at academic institutions throughout the world. Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program sends approximately 800 American scholars and professionals per year to approximately 130 countries, where they lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program has a series of new innovative opportunities to meet the changing needs of a diverse academic community in the United States. Public applications are accepted. Sports Envoy Program
Sports Envoys are athletes and coaches who travel overseas to lead programs that were developed by U.S. embassies and consulates. These American coaches and athletes hold sports clinics for young people and their coaches, participate in community outreach activities, and engage youth in a dialogue on the importance of leadership and respect for diversity. SportsUnited manages the Sports Envoy programs, working in cooperation with the U.S. Olympic Committee, U.S. sports federations, and professional leagues. Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship
This Fellowship was launched in 2013 as a new component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. It provides opportunities for U.S. citizens to participate in an academic year of overseas travel and digital storytelling in up to three countries on globally significant theme. This Fellowship is made possible through a partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the National Geographic Society. Public applications are accepted. American Music Abroad
American Music Abroad artists represent the new generation of musical ambassadors; reaching beyond concert halls to interact with other musicians and citizens around the globe. Each year, approximately 10 ensembles of American roots music in different genres are selected to embark on a month-long, multi-country tour, where they engage with international audiences through public concerts, interactive performances with local musicians, lectures and demonstrations, workshops, jam sessions, and media interviews. American Music Abroad activities focus on younger and undeserved audiences in countries where people have few opportunities to meet American performers and experience their music first-hand. Arts Envoy
The Arts Envoy Program shares the best of the U.S. arts community with the world to foster cross-cultural understanding and collaboration and to demonstrate shared values and aspirations. American arts professionals, including performing artists, visual artists, poets, playwrights, theatrical and film directors, curators, and others travel overseas to conduct workshops, give performances, and mentor young people. Programs seek to connect with international publics who might not otherwise have the opportunity to engage with American arts professionals. Individuals and groups are selected by U.S. Embassy in collaboration with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Fulbright Specialist Program
The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of 2 to 6 weeks. Fulbright Specialists are a diverse group of highly experienced, well-established faculty members and professionals who represent a wide variety of academic disciplines and professions. In order to be eligible to serve as a Fulbright Specialist, candidates must have significant experience in their respective professional field and be a U.S. citizen at the time of application. List of Exchange Programs in Serbia Since 2001
Since 2001, Serbians have taken part in a number of official exchange programs funded by the U.S. Government. Those include:
