EXBS and ICITAP Donation Ceremony

Good afternoon.  Today we have an  opportunity to underscore the continued cooperation between the United States and Serbia.

Today, the U.S. Embassy is proud to mark the delivery of equipment worth over $1,200,000 to the Serbian Border Police, Service for Counter Narcotics, Service for Special Investigative Measures, and Customs Administration. This assistance is a concrete symbol of our shared struggle against drug trafficking and for secure borders.

Through EXBS and ICITAP, the United States Government provides technical assistance and sophisticated equipment Serbia.

All told, since 2006, the U.S. Embassy has donated approximately 12 million dollars of equipment and training to Serbia.  The equipment you see here today bolsters the Border Police’s ability to intercept illegal shipments, from weapons  to drug trafficking and discovering clandestine laboratories.  IT equipment and software are meant to  fight against organized crime and corruption.    This equipment will strengthen Serbian defenses against all forms of contraband smuggling, as well as the trafficking of human beings and terrorism financing.

I want to extend my congratulations to all of Serbia’s law enforcement officers. They are on the front line of the fight against drug trafficking, terrorism, and organized crime.  I hope this equipment will complement your courageous efforts to make Serbia safer for all.    America is proud to stand at your side.   Thank you and long live  partnership between Serbia and the United States of America!
