Regional Refugee Coordinator Lays Foundation Stone for 40 Apartments Intended for Refugees

Regional Refugee Coordinator Sam (Kent) Healy took part in setting the foundation stone for 40 apartments in Sremska Mitrovica intended for refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, which will be built within Regional Housing Program (RHP).

U.S. is the second largest donor to the RHP. Thus far, we have committed $20 million. RHP Assembly of Donors has approved financing for 4,700 housing solutions in Serbia. This summer will see the completion of the 1,000th unit by the program, with the ultimate goal to provide durable solutions to all vulnerable refugees in Serbia.

At the same time, U.S. Government will continue to directly support programs for sustainable integration of refugees in Serbia: providing free legal aid and financing economic opportunities. In the past 10 years, U.S. Government has invested $10 million in these projects assisting more than 36,000 refugees and displaced persons.
