The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade informs U.S. citizens that on Thursday, November 2nd at 9:00pm, soccer club Partizan will play Skenderbeg (Albania) at Partizan Stadiumin Belgrade. Police expect 30,000-35,000 people at the stadium. This is a particularly high risk event because of animosity between hooligans affiliated with both teams, and frequent clashes in and around the stadium between them. Expect a large police presence in the area and around town.
There is a potential for violence before, during, and after this match. Expect police activity and crowds around the stadiums and anticipate road closures approximately two hours before the games.
Even events and demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations
