On Wednesday, June 14, U.S. Ambassador Kyle Scott will open a Daycare Center for persons with mental and physical disabilities in Pirot. Prior to the opening, Ambassador Scott will meet with Mayor of Pirot Vladan Vasić and other city officials, who will also join the event.
The construction of the Daycare Center, worth USD 415,000, was funded by the European Command of the U.S. Armed Forces, coordinated through the U.S. Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation and supervised by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Center will provide all facilities necessary to offer daily care for 150 disabled people in Pirot. The city of Pirot made available the land upon which the Daycare Center was built and processed the construction permits. The municipality also committed to funding utilities, staff and upkeep of the facilities.
The disabled are among the most vulnerable of all citizens and the project demonstrates the U.S. Government’s commitment to work together with local municipalities to improve the quality of life for all Serbian citizens, including the disabled.
Following the event at the Daycare Center, the Ambassador will visit Boem, a restaurant in Pirot which is famous for its „peglane kobasice,“ a regional sausage specialty, which will allow the Ambassador to get to know and appreciate this unique contribution to local cuisine.
